[an error occurred while processing this directive] FEATURES Best and Worst Games of 1999 [Intro]
Wargame of Year:
Wargames are a dead business. You can't make any money off them, they're
slow, they're boring and they have no cool graphics. Nobody's interested
in them at all. At least, that seems to be the conventional wisdom in the
gaming industry. Talonsoft keeps defying the conventional wisdom that you can't succeed in building a game that's simultaneously a strong simulation and fun at the same time. Reprising their successful TOAW product, TOAWII is the result of their strong attention to the wargaming community. Combining a scale which is difficult to simulate without a narrowly customized engine, possibly the best supply and support modeling to date, and an editor that allows the gaming community to exercise it's creative juices to the fullest, The Operational Art of War 2 is all things to all wargamers. It's an accurate simulation system, it has limitless flexibility, and it's fun even for those who don't CARE how many LMG's are in a SWAPO Rifle Battalion. The game plays as fast as you want it, subsuming the detail into a relatively simple overall system that even beginners can grasp, while allowing grognards unfettered ability to nit-pick and replay every possible formulation of a conflict to their hearts' desire. We're happy to grant The Operational Art of War 2 our "1999 Wargame of the Year." runner up: Sid Meier's Antimen! |
